Occasionally I have been known to participate in the question of the week (as hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read – New? Follow by email, RSS, or Twitter). This week’s question (and request): “Who is your to-die-for book crush? What do you think they look like? Add an image to make us all happy.” While I do think the question is a bit ridiculous, I also enjoy questions that make me think. This one did. I am generally not a romantic person, nor am I particularly prone to crushes – especially on fictional people. So this required a lot of thought on my part to come up with a genuine answer. The answer: I have three – Ben Hanscomb (IT by Stephen King), Stu Redman (The Stand by Stephen King), and George Emerson (A Room with a View by E. M. Forster). I actually picture the same person playing the first two characters (Timothy Olyphant). I imagine George Emerson as an Edwardian Edward Norton.
One of my previous romantic heroes was Edward Fairfax Rochester. Despite my distaste for him, I pictured Michael Fassbender as Mr. Rochester (it is the most recent version of Jane Eyre I’ve watched). Then I saw Shame. Mr. Rochester will never look the same (on a side note: I cannot believe there is now a novel called Jane Eyre Laid Bare – really, eroticizing Jane Eyre? No, just no.)
