I don’t consider myself much of a genre reader. I do have preferences, but I seem to mostly practice genre avoidance. There are just certain areas that don’t interest me as much, particularly dystopian literature and urban fantasy. I don’t dislike them, they just aren’t the first (or second or third or fourth) books I’ll reach for. To be honest, I can be a mood or seasonal reader. I can’t help if October is the perfect month for Stephen King novels!
I do consider myself a general fiction reader, so I’ll give you my favorites in genres I’ve recently read:
Contemporary fiction: Tell the Wolves I’m Home by Carol Rifka Brunt
Historical fiction: Wilderness by Lance Weller
Science fiction: Ready Player One by Ernest Cline
Horror: Horns by Joe Hill
Romance: Eternal Kiss of Darkness by Jeaniene Frost
Young Adult: Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins
What about you? Are you a general fiction reader or do you have a strong genre preference? Only adult or YA novels? Tell me what you think!
